Complete Charades Rules & Guidelines
Master the art of charades with these comprehensive rules and tips for both actors and guessers:
DO's - Allowed Actions:
Full Body Acting: Use gestures, facial expressions, body positions, and movements to convey meaning
Environmental Props: Point to or interact with objects, furniture, or people in the room
Number Indicators: Use fingers to show word count, syllables, or which word you're acting
Standard Gestures: Use established charades signals for categories and clues
Creative Staging: Use the entire space, lie down, jump, run - whatever helps!
Concept Building: Act out related ideas to build toward the answer
DON'Ts - Forbidden Actions:
No Sounds: Absolutely no speaking, whispering, humming, or sound effects
No Mouthing: Don't mouth words or move lips to form words silently
No Writing: Can't draw letters, numbers, or symbols in the air or on surfaces
No Sign Language: Individual sign language letters are not allowed
No Text Pointing: Can't point to letters on clothing, signs, or books
No Props: Unless specifically allowed, don't use items as props
Golden Rule:
If you're unsure whether something is allowed, ask before the game starts! House rules can vary, and it's better to clarify than to have disputes mid-game.
